Barby and Onley Gardening Club

The Gardening Club meets in the Middle Room of Barby Village Hall during the months of October to May. The meetings are usually on the 3rd Tuesday of the month and start at 7.40pm with refreshments offered from 7.15p.m.

We have a variety of interesting speakers who entertain and educate us on all things related to Gardening. In addition to meetings, in June we hold a Plant Sale and we run trips to open gardens within easy driving distance in June/July. We also run the Annual Produce Show in September.

If you are interested in Gardening then we would welcome you to our club. We are affiliated to both the Royal Horticultural Society (www.rhs.org.uk) and the National Vegetable Society (www.nvsuk.org.uk) and you can access their magazines via the Club if you wish.

Barby ‘s WildFlower Sites

The Gardening Club have taken on the maintenance of Barby’s two wildflower areas – Ware Road and Daventry Road.

Over the winter we were busy clearing the areas, rotavating and digging to get as many weeds and grass from the sites as possible and in the case of Ware Road, planting daffodil bulbs. We also planted two Smoke Bush trees to give added permanency to the area.

Since then, we have planted snowdrops (in the green), foxgloves and cowslips on both sites and further planting will take place as the year progresses.

On the Daventry Road site, we have planted yellow rattle to try and suppress the grass to allow the wildflowers to come through.

Many people have stopped to comment on how good both sites are looking – so thank you.
If you have any wildflowers you could donate then we would be grateful – just contact the Chairperson of the Garden Club.

In the meantime, take a look at the photographs of the progress so far.
