The Gardening Club have taken on the maintenance of Barby’s two wildflower areas – Ware Road and Daventry Road.
Over the winter we were busy clearing the areas, rotavating and digging to get as many weeds and grass from the sites as possible and in the case of Ware Road, planting daffodil bulbs. We also planted two Smoke Bush trees to give added permanency to the area.
Since then, we have planted snowdrops (in the green), foxgloves and cowslips on both sites and further planting will take place as the year progresses.
On the Daventry Road site, we have planted yellow rattle to try and suppress the grass to allow the wildflowers to come through.
Many people have stopped to comment on how good both sites are looking – so thank you.
If you have any wildflowers you could donate then we would be grateful – just contact the Chairperson of the Garden Club.
In the meantime, take a look at the photographs of the progress so far.
