For many years Barby has been twinned with the picturesque French village of Vulaines-sur-Seine. Vulaines is close to the historical town of Fontainebleau. As its name implies, Vulaines is situated directly on the placid Seine River.
2020 Visit to Vulaines
Due to the current health situation, we have decided to postpone our trip to Vulaines in May this year. We will be planning our 2021 exchange visit later this year so, if you are interested in spending a weekend with our twin village, please ring Christine on 01788 522865 for more information.
In late May or early June each year, members take part in an exchange with families from Vulaines. Barby members visit Vulaines and Vulaines members visit Barby and our surrounding area.
Coach travel is arranged with a charge dependent on numbers travelling.
To visit Vulaines-sur-Seine a member only pays for their own travel expenses.
Once in Vulaines, please be aware that many from our twinned town are real “Anglophiles” and you will be treated as a most honoured guest.

This long weekend is a splendid opportunity to see a beautiful part of France, experience French family life, and for one to learn or improve their language skills, especially children. You will have a lot of fun with your French family and at the same time get to know neighbours from your own area.
This is an experience beyond a package tour of France.
Very often lifetime friendships are established on these weekends.
A typical visit to Vulaines includes:
- Friday: Travel by coach to Vulaines. A welcome dinner with your host family.
- Saturday: After breakfast with your host, an entertainment is laid on by our host families for our entire group. Saturday evening usually includes a grand meal with entertainment.
- Sunday: There is often a picnic or other entertainment in the afternoon. Sunday evening is a supper with your hosts and perhaps other families. The exact program may vary.
- Monday morning after breakfast we board our coach for home.
Sometimes we will stay in a hotel along the route to and from Vulaines
which is an additional cost to you.
This is an exciting opportunity to form new friendships and be part of an active and vibrant fun organisation.
The annual membership for families is normally £20 and for individual members is £10. However our AGM has been postponed until June 2021 and subscriptions have been suspended until July 2021 which means any new members will have their first year free.
